| A Bit Of History Cap Wood Products was started by John Cox in 1978 in a small and drafty garage in downtown Waukesha. At first all work was done by John at night as he was a architectural draftsman by day. Within a few years the demand for his work was so great that he quit his drafting job and worked full time on the architectural millwork and furniture projects that were coming into his shop. In 1980 Cap Wood moved to a much larger facility on an old diary farm that had been converted to manufacturing shops in Genesee Depot, Wisconsin. Shortly after that move, John and his growing company opened up their first showroom to display their handcrafted furniture. Dining room sets, entertainment centers and roll top desks were just some of the pieces on display. Cap Wood was noticed by other small furniture makers and started contracting to manufacture other lines of furniture for furniture companies. At about the same time Cap Wood Products put out their own catalog of furniture designs selling through independent sales representatives in about 8 states. It wasn’t long before a larger shop was needed. Late in 1988 ground was broken to construct a 14,500 sq ft building. CWP moved their operation in May 1989 to the new facility in Waukesha, WI which is their present home. With the added space, CWP brought in more machinery over the next few years to be able to produce high quality furniture along with handcrafted custom cabinets and other wood components that customers had requested CWP to make. At present CWP has the capacity to manufacture, finish and package a large variety of projects ranging from the high end custom piece of furniture for the distinguishing customer to large runs of component parts for POP display distributors. With John still at the wheel designing and overseeing the shop, CWP looks forward to helping all customers obtain the quality piece of furniture that they dream of. |
